The holy season of Lent is a good time to consider the mission of Catholic Charities of Long Island in light of the seven Corporal Works of Mercy found in the teachings of Jesus:

Feed the hungry
Drink to the thirsty
Clothe the naked
Shelter the homeless
Visit the sick
Visit the imprisoned
Bury the dead

One way that CCLI is able to feed the hungry is through the Meals on Wheels program in which our drivers deliver some 4,000 meals nutritious meals weekly to homebound seniors on Long Island. The drivers often spend a few minutes conversing with each senior and on occasion may assist with a light household task. The interactions are sometimes the only ones the seniors have with another person that day. The daily exchange is uplifting for both seniors and drivers.

During Lent please join us in praying for those who prepare and deliver the meals, as well as the seniors who receive them, so that all may be filled with the hope of Christ.
