Through its maternity support services, Catholic Charities sees to
the physical, social, and emotional health of young women facing
motherhood without adequate resources. Regina Residence provides
housing and supportive services for up to 16 pregnant and/or
parenting young women and their children. Emphasis is placed on
preparing the girls for the challenges of working and parenting.
Services Provided
Regina Residence
Regina Residence provides a structured living environment,
with regular meal times, shared household work, study time, and
evening curfews. The daily schedule lends stability and teaches
young mothers independent living skills.
Case management services facilitate access to health and social
services available to the young mothers. Nutrition programs,
including
CSFP
, contribute to the healthy
development of both mothers and babies.
Regina Residence helps the young women in its care to maintain
continuity and consistency in educational and employment
activities, and to balance the responsibilities of parenting with
other areas of their lives.
The young mothers occasionally need a break from their hectic,
stressful schedules. The residence's recreational activities include
trips to the theatre, museums, parks and beaches, and other
outings.
Volunteer Mentoring Program
A volunteer mentoring program connects the young women with
role models from the community to encourage their development
as workers and parents. The mentors spend regular, one-on-one
time with the young mothers, listening to their concerns, and
responding with encouragement and positive suggestions.
Note: The volunteer mentoring program is open to all single pregnant
and parenting young women age 11 to 21, not only those at Regina
Residence.
