Superstorm Sandy Response

Before the first drop of rain fell, Catholic Charities’ response to Superstorm Sandy has relied on inspired and energetic collaboration between staff, volunteers, pastors, and parish social ministry programs across the Diocese of Rockville Centre.  Our Disaster Relief Fund, fueled by the generosity of donors like you, has provided more than $2.4 million in direct assistance to more than 6,000 families rebuilding their lives after the storm.  And our Disaster Case Management program helps storm survivors assess their needs, plan their recovery, and secure services to keep moving forward.  The program now serves more than 900 families.
New Life at Regina Residence
Two baby boys and one baby girl were born to mothers living at Regina Residence.  The program provides safe and supportive home for new families while helping the new mothers acquire the skills needed to be confident, independent workers and parents.  Mary's Residence, located next door, is a more independent option for young families taking the next step toward self-sufficiency.  34 mothers and babies called these residences "home" in 2013.
